Jesus the rebel :-)

 John 7:19-24

Folks don't know what to do with Jesus because He healed on the Sabbath.  Jesus points out that when you point your finger at your neighbour there are 3 more pointing back at you.  Jesus shows how the law's contradict each other (keeping the Sabbath holy or circumcising on the 8th day) and highlights the fact that we are to care for each other above the laws.

Lord Jesus, there is a lot of conflict in churches over holiness and acceptance.  The truth is none of us are perfect in Your eyes.  We all have a lesson to learn but some of us are proud of getting perfect on our grade one exam when we are in grade ten!  Help us to just obey the next little thing You tell us to do.  If this is a concerned confrontation with someone who needs help in Your Kingdom give us the wisdom to know how to approach the individual.  If this is recognizing our weakness and learning to grow in our own faith give us the courage to do what You're asking.  If this is....  Lord, You know what we need individually and as the Body of Christ.  Give us Your wisdom and help us to not take advantage of Your grace.  In Your mighty and Holy name.  Amen

Observe what He does!

  John 10:31-42 It was against the law to claim to be the Messiah if you're not and the Jewish leaders knew it!  So this passage emphasized that Jesus claimed to be the Messiah because they wanted to stone Him.  In His defense He pointed out that if He was not the Messiah how could He heal the sick and raise the dead!  We must observe what He does to determine the truth. Lord Jesus, we're thinking of folks who haven't accepted You as Messiah yet.  Would You help them to observe what You do and open their eyes to see the truth.  In Your mighty name. Death; do we fear it?

  John 11:8-16 These verses challenge us on death.  Should Jesus go to Lazarus?  After all, the disciples think Jesus life is at stake if He goes. Jesus responds to them in such a way that they know He's not afraid...but the disciple's are also concerned for their lives too as noted in verse 16.  Should they go where they're not wanted by those in authority, in order to be with their friends?  Jesus has waited for Lazarus to die before He decides to go!  This is to show the disciples that He has power over death. Lord Jesus, please help us to make wise decisions that glorify You.  Help us to remember that You have conquered death.  In Your mighty name.

Thru Jesus we receive grace

  John 1:16-18 The law came through Moses but grace and truth came through Jesus.  If we're trying to be perfect we have to realize that it's best to be honestly imperfect and this is what Jesus allows.  He didn't come to abolish the law...we still have a goal; but He did come to help us live up to the law.  The law is summed up as "love the Lord Your God with all of your heart soul and mind and love your neighbour as yourself" but here are a few practical tips in how to do this Deut 5:7-21 7  “You shall have no other gods before [ b ]  me. 8  “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.   9  You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the  Lord  your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,   10  but showing love to a thousand gen...
